What a cookie is
A small file a site stores in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work; others measure how it is used or support advertising.
Strictly necessary
Used to keep the site secure and to remember your cookie choice. These cannot be switched off, because refusing them would mean the site could not remember that you refused.
Analytics
Set by Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. They tell us how many people came and what they looked at. They are not used to identify you and are not needed for the site to work — refusing them costs you nothing.
Advertising
Set by Google AdSense, Mediavine and their advertising partners to serve advertisements, measure their performance, limit how often you see the same one, and, where you allow it, make them relevant to you. Refusing them does not remove advertising; it makes it non-personalised.
How to control them
Where the law requires consent, a notice appears on your first visit and nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookies is set until you choose. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time through the same notice.
Every browser also lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking all cookies will not break this site — there is nothing here that needs you to be logged in.
